Match officials for ARC announced

Five referees from four countries will take charge of matches in the re-vamped Americas Rugby Championship. Two from Argentina, and one each from Canada, USA, and Uruguay have been appointed to the six-team competition that kicks off on February 6. Each referee has been assigned three of the 15 total matches. Assistants have not been named and are likely to be local appointments.

Ohio native Kurt Weaver represents the USA, and was recently seen in the middle of the USA-Harlequins World Cup warm-up match in August. Similarly Canadian Chris Assmus, currently of Abbotsford, BC, ran the rule over Canada-Glasgow in Halifax. Both Uruguay’s Joaquín Montes and Argentina’s Juan Sylvestre have been spotted in previous iterations of the ARC, with the latter part of last year’s World Rugby u20 Championship match official panel. Damián Schneider, also of Argentina, was one of five referees tasked with policing the u20 Trophy in Portugal.
