A new week of training for the Super Rugby season got underway today in Argentina. Joining the 31-man Jaguares roster were four more players, bringing the total number in training this week to 35. The four new additions are prime contenders to play for Argentina in the Americas Rugby Championship.
Those who joined last week were absent and are instead training for the upcoming Sevens World Series legs in Wellington and Sydney. Those involved in the training today were Roberto Tejerizo, Ignacio Larrague, Franco Cuaranta and Tomás Carrió (pictured above).
Roberto Tejerizo of Tucumán Lawn Tennis is a player to have been around the scene for a number of years. Set to turn 28 in April the loosehead prop has made 24 appearances for representative teams below international level since 2010. His four test caps to date were against Chile and Uruguay in 2011 and 2012.
Standing in at 2,01m tall and weighing 120kg Ignacio Larrague is a very solid second-row option being groomed for the future. Aged just 20 the CASI product has representative experience playing for Los Pumitas at the 2014 and 2015 Junior World Championships.
Córdoba winger Franco Cuaranta is, like Larrague, being called up to the senior adult level for the first time. The 23 year old from the Tala club has represented Argentina twice at junior level, once for the under 19’s and once for the under 20’s (Los Pumitas).
Another outside back, Tomás Carrió has vastly more experience than Cuaranta. Aged 26, Carrió has been capped six times during which time he has started on both wings and at fullback from 2013-2015. His caps have been against Brazil, Chile, Georgia, Paraguay and Uruguay. Born in Chaco, Carrió is a rare top level player from the northern province. Like Tejerizo he has prior experience with the Pampas XV.
