Argentina Buenos Aires vs Interior All Stars

Imagine an Argentina Buenos Aires vs Interior All Star Fantasy Game. Who would take the field in a best of the best fixture between players from both URBA clubs vs players from clubs from throughout the country?

All-Star Boundaries
Such a match would, in effect, be like a trial for higher honors. All Argentine players would be in consideration – those currently playing club rugby in the country and those on professional contracts both for Argentina and abroad.

The rivalry between Buenos Aires and the remainder of Argentina is real. It therefore makes a natural fit for having such an All-Star game. Only a few minor modifications would be required such as players representing URBA or the Interior depending on (a) where they come from not their most recent club and (b) non-Buenos Aires province clubs involved in URBA will be considered Interior.

Out of the running are Argentine players who have been capped by other countries. For this reason noteworthy players including Leandro Cedaro, Martín Castrogiovanni and Sergio Parisse will not be considered. This is the case despite such players having gone through the Argentine system.

Past and Present
Evolution between Rugby World Cups 2007 and 2015 saw more players from the interior included in the roster for last year’s tournament. Marcelo Loffreda’s roster included just four players from outside of Buenos Aires while Daniel Hourcade’s roster had twelve.

The leveling of the playing field has been encouraged through the PladAR program which has used regional centers to identify and train the best players from junior level. This has given way to Raúl Pérez’s 30-man Super Rugby roster currently having 16 non-Buenos Aires players.

Teams
Americas Rugby News’ selection is entirely based on fantasy. The players deemed to be the best from Buenos Aires and the Interior have been named. All are currently active players with representative experience.
