Goméz Kodela Tipped to Join Lyon

Argentine tighthead prop Francisco Goméz Kodela is tipped to join Lyon next season. The 30 year old is currently playing his second season for Bordeaux in the Top 14 and enjoying regular game time in both the French competition and the European Rugby Champions Cup.

Bordeaux is his second French club after he joined Biarritz in 2011, playing Top 14 rugby for the now second division side for three seasons. His future, according to Sud Ouest now lies at Lyon. Having been relegated from the Top 14 Lyon is now well placed to return. With 54 competition points the club is fourteen points better than the second placed Bayonne.

From the Buenos Aires of Belgrano, Goméz Kodela went on to debut for Argentina in 2008 against Uruguay. He scored a try in his second test match against Chile the same year and next played for Los Pumas in 2011 against the same two countries. Santiago Phelan called him up to the senior roster for matches in June 2012, November 2012 and June 2013.

In total he earned 11 test caps but is yet to be selected by Daniel Hourcade who replaced Phelan in October 2014. His final test appearance was in the 2013 win over Georgia in San Juan. Goméz Kodela was Argentina’s replacement tighthead prop, covering Maximiliano Bustos who was forced out of rugby with a very serious spinal injury.
