Old Boys and Old Christians to play in Torneo del Interior B

The strong Argentine-Uruguayan rugby alliance is set to become even stronger. In addition to Uruguay being a part of the new Americas Rugby Championship and the Uruguay XV playing in the Argentine Provincial Championship traditional clubs Old Christians and Old Boys are to play in the Torneo del Interior B.

As champion and runner-up of the Uruguayan national championship, the Montevideo clubs have been confirmed as participants in the Torneo del Interior B, the third division of club rugby in Argentina, behind the Nacional de Clubes and the Torneo del Interior A.

Old Christians will play in Serie 2 of the competition against four clubs – San Patricio (Corrientes), Logaritmo (Rosario), CURNE (Chaco) and Universitario de Santa Fe (Santa Fé).

Old Boys, meanwhilre, are to play in Serie 3 against Bigornia (Chubut), San Ignacio (Mar del Plata) and Universitario de Mar del Plata (Mar del Plata) and Marabunta de Río Negro (Río Negro).

The top two from each Serie will qualify for the Quarter Finals and the Champion will win promotion to the Torneo del Interior A.

The competition is set to result in varios changes to the Campeonato Uruguayo, which is to be altered to have a qualification tournament in the first half of 2016 involving 12 teamds from the first and second divisions. After the completion of the Argentine tournament, in the second half of the year Uruguay’s traditional tournament will be played.

For Los Teros the changes mean that all players will be avaliable for international duty for the first hald of the year while from June to November those outside of the Uruguayan roster will play for their clubs.
