Americas players in Challenge Cup Week 3

The third round of the 2015-2016 European Challenge Cup got underway last night. Involved was Argentine second-rower Mariano Galarza who started for Gloucester in Thursday’s round three European Challenge Cup fixture against his former club, Worcester. The two-time Rugby World Cup participant recently extended his contract with the cherry and whites which will rule him out of playing for Los Pumas indefinitely.

Also in action on Thursday was uncapped Argentine Bautista Güemes who played fly half for Agen against Grenoble. Canadian prop Jason Marshall returns from injury to start at tighthead prop, with US eligible Dave Ryan named as his back-up on the bench. Güemes scored three points via a penalty.

In action tonight will be Eagles utility forward Cam Dolan will feature from the bench for the Cardiff Blues who play host to Montpellier. Blaine Scully is not in the Blues lineup, nor is Eagles flyhalf AJ MacGinty for Connacht, currently sidelined through injury. Canada u20 cap Shane O’Leary returns from injury to take a spot among the reserves. Opponents Newcastle Falcons have Pumas midfielder Juan Pablo Socino on the bench.

Argentine Emiliano Coria will start at hooker for Italian side Zebre who travel to France to face La Rochelle. More often found at tighthead prop, the uncapped 25 year old from Tucumán is somewhat of a forgotten man of Argentine rugby but is well known to Daniel Hourcade. Starting for the opposition will be Leandro Cedaro, an Argentine second row lost to Italy whom he played one test for in 2013.

Starting on Saturday for Pau will be Cameron Pierce. The Canadian will wear the number 4 shirt in his team’s away match against the Newport Gwent Dragons. Another second-rower from the Americas, Agustín Cavalieri will start at home for Calvisano against the Harlequins. Another Argentine, Pablo Canavosio, will play in the mid-field.

Jebb Sinclair will also start on Saturday, playing second-row for London Irish who host Edinburgh. Argentine tighthead prop, Lucas Martínez meanwhile will feature off the bench for Castres who play host to the Sale Sharks.
