The Canadian national senior men’s team will making a stop in Dublin during their annual end-of-year European tour. The match against Ireland will take place on November 12 at the Aviva Stadium during the first week of the international test window. Two further matches have yet to be announced.
Canada have played Ireland on eight occasions, losing seven and drawing once at home in 2000. Their last meeting was in Cardiff during the World Cup, a 50-7 victory for Ireland. Canada have not faced a Tier 1 opponent in November since 2008, when they toured Portugal, Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
It will be a busy year for for the senior men’s program, with five tests in the upgraded Americas Rugby Championship beginning in February, followed by a home game against Italy in June (Toronto, likely the 18th) and a three-match tour in November. Additional June tests are likely but yet to be confirmed. The Pacific Nations Cup is also still to be confirmed. This year’s schedule saw Canada play Japan, Tonga, Samoa, and the USA from mid-July through the first week of August.
The previous iteration of the ARC took place in October between the ‘A’ sides of Canada, USA, Argentina, and Uruguay, but that appears to have been replaced with the new tournament. It’s unclear whether the Pacific Challenge will be rejigged or scrapped altogether. The 2015 version was hosted in Fiji with matches between ‘A’ sides taking place from March 10 and 23.
