World Rugby and Uruguay’s 2015 moment to Savour

When Uruguayan hooker Carlos Arboleya crossed for his try against Fiji in the Rugby World Cup the players, supporters and commentators all erupted with joy. The celebrations saw Teros fans, neutrals and even Fijians all very happy.

Head Coach Pablo Lemoine was another. The former tighthead test prop’s name was used as a constant reminder throughout the matches vs Wales, Australia and Fiji. The reason being that prior to Arboleya scoring Lemoine had crossed for the previous try.

Lemoine’s try against England in 2003 was during Uruguay’s fourth and final pool match. Los Teros played well to beat Georgia in that tournament but were unable to qualify for Rugby World Cups 2007 or 2011. Lemoine thus had double reason for celebrating. Curiously only he and Semo Sititi scored against England in the 2003 pool stage.
