Canadian prop Andrew Tiedemann has signed for French Pro D2 club Bourgoin-Jallieu. The 27-year-old World Cup squad member had only just arrived in Hong Kong in recent weeks to join HKFC, but will quickly head nearly 10,000 km west to join his new teammates in the east of France. Tiedemann has been signed until the end of the 2016/17 season as a replacement for Sven Holtzinger, who has had to put his career on hold to deal with family matters.
This is not the first time that the St. Albert, Alberta, native has played professionally in France. He played the 2012/13 season with Auch, also in Pro D2, starting nine games and coming on as a replacement in seven others. Last season Tiedemann started 19 games for Plymouth Albion in England’s Greene King IPA Championship, but departed following the club’s relegation to National One.
A specialist tighthead prop, though he has international experience across the front row, Tiedemann has won 38 caps since making his debut in 2009. He is a graduate of the national junior program and has represented the Wolf Pack in the Canadian Rugby Championships, helping them lift their first ever MacTier Cup in 2015.
