Eagles to play Pumas & Canada in Texas, Chile in Florida

Americas Rugby News has learned through highly reliable sources that the USA Eagles will play home matches during the inaugural Americas Rugby Cup (Americas Six Nations) in Texas and Florida. The matches are to be against Argentina, Canada and Chile and will be over the three opening rounds of the competition.

The Eagles will begin at home against top seeds Argentina at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas on February 06. The venue has been used by USA Rugby in recent years with crowds of 20,000 in attendance for home matches against Ireland and Scotland in 2013 and 2014.

The Eagles will remain in Texas for their second round fixture on February 13, against Canada in the state capital of Austin. Bill Taute, Chairman of Austin Blacks rugby and fellow Board of Director of Old Maroon Rugby with Grant Cole, posted in Austin Rugby Friends confirming that Argentina will play in Houston and Canada in Austin on these dates.

For round three the Eagles will travel to Florida to face Chile in the easiest of the three home fixtures. Dan Santoro, Curator of the American Rugby News list-serv on Yahoo and long-time Florida Rugby clubman and committeeman posted details confirming that Fort Lauderdale has been chosen to host  the test match against Los Condores on Feb 20.

Both Taute and Santoro quoted an email from USA Rugby in their posts. The many eager fans now have plenty of time to prepare for the competition and get behind the Eagles.

The fourth and fifth round fixtures for the Eagles will be in South America as the USA will play away to Brazil in São Paulo on February 27 before playing against Uruguay on March 06. No venue has been announced for any of Uruguay’s home matches though Americas Rugby News was told in September from an URU employee that it is close to certain that Los Teros will play at the Estadio Charrua in Montevideo.
