Jillion Potter Fights back from Cancer to Make USA Sevens team

Against all odds USA Rugby women’s player Jillion Potter is set to play in the Women’s Sevens Series season opener in Dubai in two weeks time and do so as captain. Potter has been named on the 12-player roster in her remarkable comeback 14 months after cancer diagnosis.

The 29 year old had been an important player for the USA’s women’s Rugby Sevens team when she was diagnosed with stage III Synovial sarcoma in September 2014. Having fought back to make the cut from the initial 24-player training camp for Dubai, Potter is now on track to play in the 2016 Olympic Games.

Potter, who started playing rugby at the University of New Mexico told NBC Sports “It took a while for me to get back,I feel like I’m on the right track to Rio.”
