Wák win Copa Caribe, Costa Rica topple Panama

Last Saturday the Liceo Franco Costarricense played host to the first edition of the Copa Caribe, a preparation tournament for the upcoming South American C Championship to take place from december 6-12 in El Salvador.

The tournament acted as preparation for both Costa Rica’s men’s and women’s teams, with the men playing a test match against Panama while the women’s team from both Costa Rica and Panama competed in a Sevens tournament which also involved a variety of club sides – Wák, Cartago and San José.

Following ten matches, in a round robin format Wák was crowned champion. The Guerreras defeated both Costa Rica and Panama and finished with the best for and against record of +134, compared to Costa Rica with +92 and Panama with +57.

the test match was won 72-25 by Costa Rica who enter the South American C Championship as favorites. Also competing will be El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama. Additional Central American republics Honduras and Nicaragua have been invited to compete in an international friendly during the South American C Championship.

Beforehand Honduras and Guatemala will face-off in a test match later on this month.
