Chile Prepare for Spain after losing against Basque Country

Chile’s two-match tour of Spain got underway with an intense match against Basque Country which was won by the home side 31-17. Chile now has the opportunity to improve ahead of the test side’s final match of the year, a test against Spain on Saturday.

The match against the Basque Country was not positive for Los Condores. With a crowd of 1,200 in Anoeta the Euskadi selection had a competitive lineup of players from both the Spanish and French Basque territories.

The home side was able to control the play and be superior in the contact area while causing Chile problems. The experimental Condores side had five debutants (Piwonka, Parra, Gurruchaga, Velarde, Montoya) in an effort to build for the future which starts in February with the Americas Rugby Cup.

Chile and Brazil are to join the Rugby World Cup 2015 competitors Argentina, Canada, Uruguay and the USA in the new and exciting Americas version of the Six Nations Championship. Before the World Cup Uruguay also faced the Basque Selection in a warm-up match but the result was very different with Los Teros achieving a good win. Both Chile and Brazil will need to improve to be competitive come February.
