Puma Extends Contract with Gloucester

Argentine international second-rower Mariano Galarza will play an additional three years for Aviva Premiership side Gloucester. The player confirmed his decision to remain with the Cheery and Whites rather than returning home to play Super Rugby.

Now into his second season at Gloucester Galarza is set to return to play for the team in two weeks time. It is his third European club after previously playing in Ireland for Leinster in 2010 and for Worcester in 2013-2014.

Galarza’s involvement in Rugby World Cup 2015 was cut short after he was suspended following the opening match against New Zealand. Tournament rules prevented Argentina from replacing him which saw Daniel Houcade’s roster limited to Matías Alemanno, Guido Petti and Tomás Lavanini as specialist second-rowers.

New UAR selection policies mean that Galarza will not be eligible to represent his country while he plays in England. As such the chances of the 29 year old adding to his 24 caps would appear limited but he could yet play again.

His contract with Gloucester features a clause which will permit him to opt out  early to return to Argentina to play for the country’s Super Rugby franchise.
