Luque Crowned Paraguay Champions

Asunción club Luque successfully defended their national title. Today’s 41-10 victory over Curda in the Top 9 final sees the club completing the season unbeaten to underline itself as Paraguay’s leading rugby club.

Played at the home of the Union de Paraguay del Rugby (Paraguay Rugby Union – URP) the Top 9 Final was broadcast live by Tigo Sports. Known as the Héroes de Curupayty, the national stadium has had a busy year and plans are well underway for this to continue.

Paraguay is interested in being integrated in the Americas Rugby Cup. The Six Nations competition will exclude Paraguay for the time being with Brazil and Chile instead being those to join the Rugby World Cup 2015 competitors from the Americas – Argentina, Canada, Uruguay and the USA.

In time authorities desire for Paraguay to join South American B Champions Colombia together with other countries from the Americas to establish an Americas B Rugby Cup which would potentially see the winner promoted, swapping places with the bottom placed side from the top division.

Earlier in 2015 Paraguay defeated Brazil to finish above the Portuguese speaking nation. The Tupis will play both Germany and Colombia in upcoming matches. These fixtures are to serve as preparation for the Americas Rugby Cup which starts in February.
