Campeonato Argentino de Mayores Round 3

Round three of Argentina’s national provincial championship, the Campeonato Argentino de Mayores was played earlier today. Also known as the Torneio Argentino de Uniones or the Copa Personal for commercial reasons the competition brings together the leading athletes from nationwide to give them exposure to a higher level competition.

Divided into Championship Zone, Promotion Zone A and B and Under 21 level the Campeonato Argentino is an integral part of the country’s rugby calendar.

The round three results in the Championship Zone mean Buenos Aires is now comfortably leading the competition. A 35-19 home win over Salta combined with Tucumán suffering a shock one point home loss against Rosario means that Buenos Aires head into the fourth of five rounds with a healthy lead.

The third Championship Zone match today saw Córdoba winning another nail-bitter. The 31-30 victory sees the province tie northern neighbors Tucumán on 9 competition points. Their opponents from this afternoon, Cuyo, on the other hand remain winless.

In the Promotional Zone B the Uruguay XV continued on in their winning ways by defeating Oeste 30-17 in an away fixture. The official A side of the Rugby World Cup 2015 competitors remain well placed to enter repechage with the opportunity of playing in the Championship Zone in the future.
