Canadians, Eagles and Pumas in European Championship

The old and new of the Americas at Toulon will be in action this weekend as the European Champions face-off against last season’s Aviva Premiership Finalists Bath. Both Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe and Samu Manoa will start in the Toulon pack and hope to see the team off to a good start as it chases a fourth consecutive European Championship.

Set to be played on Sunday Toulon’s opener will follow appearances from other places from the Americas in different matches. Pumas loosehead prop Marcos Ayerza will start tonight for the Leicester Tigers while Argentine-Italian Matías Aguero will be on the bench.

Leicester’s opposition will be French champions Stade Français who are captained by an Argentine-Italian in Sergio Parisse and coached by a former Puma, Gonzalo Quesada.

Another top fixture is that of Saracens vs Toulouse while will see Chris Wyles starting on the wing while Juan Figallo and Marcelo Bosch will both be on the bench at Allianz Park. Former Puma Patricio Albacete remains sidelined for the French side.

Lucas González Amorosino will debut for Munster who face Benetton Treviso in an all-Guinness Pro 12 fixture. Missing in action will be his Pumas teammate Horacio Agulla who will not face Toulon.

Former Puma Francisco Goméz Kodela will be on the bench for Bordeuax who host Clermont. The visitors will be playing without Jamie Cudmore and Patricio Fernández. Similarly Manuel Carizza, Juan Imhoff and Greg Peterson will not play in the Racing 92 vs Glasgow fixture though Tommy Seymour will start.

U.S. eligible Callum Black will be on the bench for Ulster who face the struggling Oyonnax away. The prop remains uncapped and could have played in both Rugby World Cups 2011 and 2015 for the Eagles. He would be such a player to play PRO Rugby.

Canadian DTH van der Merwe will start on the wing for the Scarlets against Northampton, while both Jeff Hassler and Tyler Ardron remain injured and unavailable for Ospreys who face Exeter.
