Proyecto Alcatraz win Venezuelan Championship

Proyecto Alcatraz Rugby Club has been crowned the national champions of Venezuela after winning the Venezuelan League Final 25-10 against Mérida Rugby Club at the Hacienda Santa Teresa. A strong second half saw Proyecto Alcatraz capitalize after having been 10-8 ahead at half time.

Proyecto Alcatraz Rugby Club was founded in 2003 as part of the Proyecto Alcatraz, an initiative which seeks to reinsert troubled youth back into the community through the use of studies, work and sport.

The Rugby Santa Teresa program has been in existence at the institution since 2007. More than 200 children from school belonging to the Municipio Revenga region in Aragua state learn rugby values at the Hacienda Santa Teresa.
