Uruguay Fullback on Trial in England

Los Teros fullback Gastón Mieres has not returned to his former home of Valpolicella in Italy to play rugby. Instead the Uruguayan is on trial with Coventry RFC, a club currently playing in the National League 1, the third tier of English rugby.

Aged 26 Mieres played in all four of Uruguay’s Rugby World Cup pool matches, almost scoring against Fiji at Milton Keynes. He will be looking to add to his 41 test caps with uruguay set to have increased international competition beginning in February.

His involvement in the Americas Rugby Cup will be determined at a later date. For now Mieres is training hard for Coventry who have lost Cliffie Hodgson to a shoulder injury while former All Black Scott Hamilton is also sidelined.
