In the coming days the UAR is to announce that Daniel Hourcade will remain coach of Los Pumas for an additional two years, a source told Americas Rugby News. The extended period could increase again to see El Huevo taking the team to Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.
Hourcade took over from Santiago Phelan in October 2013 and managed to turn around the fortunes of the team as they reached the Semi Finals of Rugby World Cup 2015, finishing fourth. Considering the performances of Argentina in 2013 the accomplishments of Hourcade have been extraordinary.
The manner of his work is also noteworthy as he blooded new players to filed a vastly different team in the World Cup to that which had been playing in the 2013 Rugby Championship. Consequently Argentina are now well placed to progress to new heights in 2016 and on unlike in 2008 when there was a transition.
An official announcement is expected in the coming days and also set to be announced by the UAR are the Super Rugby details including the franchise’s name, home ground, sponsors and coaching staff. Americas Rugby News has learned that the trio of Felipe Contepomi, Martín Gaitán and Raúl Pérez will coach the franchise.
