Canadian World Cup prop Djustice Sears-Duru has signed a one-month trial contract with renowned Aviva Premiership club Leicester Tigers. With Italian loosehead Michele Rizzo out for the majority of the season due to a knee injury and Samoan Logovi’i Mulipola also struggling for fitness, Tigers have offered the mobile 21-year-old a chance to fill the gap and possibly earn a longer deal should he impress.
This is not the first time Sears-Duru has worn a Leicester shirt. A one-season stint in the academy came on the back of an eye-catching tour to England with Canada u17. With a number of his cohorts now graduated into Leicester’s senior side, it comes as no surprise that Leicester again come calling with a front row vacancy.
A product of the Oakville Crusaders club in Ontario, Sears-Duru made his senior international debut against Portugal in November 2013 at the age of just 19. After missing out in 2014, he featured in all 11 of Canada’s test matches this year, earning a first start against Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup and his second against Georgia in the World Cup warm-up.
