Figallo recalled for injured Tetaz Chaparro

A World Cup ending injury to Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro has seen a late change ahead of Sunday’s Quarter Final against Ireland in Cardiff, Wales. The La Plata front-rower suffered a bicep injury in training earlier today and will play no further part in the tournament. This has enabled Salta prop Juan Figallo to join the squad.

Figallo had been named as the for the number one tighthead prop from Rugby World Cup 2011 and was to appear in a second World Cup only to suffer a knee injury in training prior to this year’s Rugby Championship. His replacement, Matías Díaz was subsequently ruled out resulting in Juan Pablo Orlandi joining Tetaz Chaparro and Ramiro Herrera in the squad.

Still aged only 27 Figallo has overcome a serious back injury which saw him deemed unfit to play in the Top 14. Having left Montpellier he joined Saracens in the Aviva Premiership.

He could now complete a second remarkable return to play in a second Rugby World Cup Quarter Final. His last test match appearance was in the 2013 Rugby Championship at home against New Zealand.
