Logovi’i Mulipola out, Census Johnston in for Samoa

Samoa have been forced into a late change with Leicester Tigers front-rower Logovi’i Mulipola having been forced out of the Rugby World Cup. He has been replaced by veteran Toulouse tighthead prop Census Johnson who will join up with Samoa’s squad on Monday.

A teammate of Patricio Albacete, Johnston is to come out of international retirement to play in his third Rugby World Cup. The 34 year old has previously been capped 51 times by Samoa.

His inclusion in Samoa’s 31-man roster sees the number of New Zealanders playing for Samoa at the World Cup rise to 13. No country has more from abroad with Scotland, Tonga and Wales tied for second all with 11 players born abroad.

Samoa will play in Pool B against Japan, Scotland, South Africa and the USA. The team’s opening fixture will be against the USA Eagles in Brighton on Sunday September 20.
