Wins for Mexico and Colombia in South American U19s

Played under 32ºC (90ºF) heat in the north western Colombian city of La Guajira the 2015 Sudamérica Rugby B Under 19 competition got underway on Sunday.

Peru and Mexico competed in the opening fixture which was a Sudamérica vs NACRA match-up and it was the North Americans who came out on top with Las Serpientes dominating in a 61-0 performance. The fixture was featured overwhelmingly poor discipline from both sides with yellow cards being in abundance.

At senior level Mexico is ranked 56th compared to Peru who occupy 69th position in the world at present. For this reason Mexico’s win does not come as a shock but the extent of the margin is very notable.

Neighbors Colombia and Venezuela played in the day’s second match and it was the home side who came out on top with a 26-10 victory. Colombia had a number of second half try scoring opportunities go begging.

The second round of matches are to take place tomorrow, Wednesday August 26 with Mexico vs Venezuela being played at 4pm. Colombia will take-on Peru thereafter.
