Shortly before departing, Los Teros had the significant honor this Tuesday of receiving the national flag from the Minister of Tourism, Liliam Kechichian and the National Director of Sport Fernando Cáceres, during a ceremony at the Executive Tower.
Present were the Uruguayan rugby players who wil travel to the World Cup to compete in the tournament which starts on September 20.
The team will travel to Japan on Friday to play two test matches against the number one ranked Asian nation, in what is to be the final stage of preparation before confirming the 31-man squad that will compete in the World Cup. The matches against Japan wil be played on August 22 in Fukuoka and August 29 in Tokyo.
Government Backing
Both Cáceres and Kechichian highlighted the significance of Los Teros’ qualifying for the World Cup la clasificación al Mundial, but also the efforts being made in rugby in recent times to break down barriers a nd prejudices to reach all of society.
In this manner Cáceres expanded to say that the government, through the Ministry of Sport, will help the URU significantly, highlighting the initiative of teaching rugby in public schools who have got more than 10,000 children in contact with the sport.

The past few days have been special for Los Teros whom have been busy in comlpeteing their final travel preparations and also taking part in public appearances including that of the premier of the film Los Teros, Sueño Mundial. The documentary tells the story of Uruguay’s qualification path to the World Cup and the story behind the majority of players who balance their professional careers with being amateur rugby players.
