Remembering Horacio Agulla’s RWC 2007 try vs Ireland

In this week’s edition of #trytimetuesday World Rugby takes a look back at Horacio Agulla’s first half try against Ireland during the pool stage of Rugby World Cup 2007. The sensational score was started by fly half Juan Martín Hernández who, like Agulla, is to face South Africa this weekend in the Rugby Championship.

Hernández received a kick well inside his own half and looked to exploit Ireland with an up-and-under which he chased and regathered. He was then able to offload to tighthead prop Martín Scelzo who rapidly drove forward against a retreating Ireland. Felipe Contepomi then made a half break, from the resulting phase, before offloading to Ignacio Fernández Lobbe. A pick-and-go from Patricio Albacete sucked in Irish defenders allowing an overlap with Agulla scoring in the corner.

Argentina won the match 30-15 to eliminate Ireland from the World Cup. The win saw the South Americans topping the pool and doing so undefeated. It meant France would have to face New Zealand in  Cardiff, Wales despite 2007 being France’s home World Cup. Argentina, meanwhile, took-on Scotland in Paris.
