Peru to host 2015 South American B Championship

A week after the Rugby World Cup 2015 final the 5th-9th ranked South American countries will gather in Lima, Peru to contest this year’s South American B Championship. The four team competition will be played at Colegio Markham de Lima.

Organized by Sudamérica Rugby in conjunction with the Federación Peruana de Rugby (Peruvian Rugby Federation) the competition’s winner will earn the right to play a continental repechage play-off against the bottom placed South American A competitor.

Played in April and May the 2015 South American A Championship was consisted of Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. The Rugby World Cup 2015 bound Uruguayan finished top and were joined by Paraguay in the CONSUR Cup which was won by Argentina.

Brazil finished bottom and failed to win a match. The Tupis are now awaiting the South American B Championship to know who they will face in the promotion – relegation fixture.

Colombia enter the South American B Championship as heavy favorites. The Tucanes won the 2014 South American B tournament which consisted of the same four competitors. So competitive were Colombia that they won all matches with an aggregate for and against of 195 scored to just 16 conceded.

Colombia will open against the bottom ranked Ecuador while Peru will face Venezuela. Second and thrid round fixtures are to depend on results in previous rounds.
