Chilean Squad Named for South American Under 19 Championship

The Chilean under 19 coaching staff have confirmed a 26-man squad for next month’s South American Under 19 Championship. The four team tournament will be played in Asunción, Paraguay from August 9-15.

The competition is vastly important for all involved with the winner qualifying for the next World Rugby Junior World Trophy and the bottom placed side playing a promotion / relegation match against the winner of the South American B Under 19 Championship.

Colombia won the 2014 South American B Under 19 Championship which also included Mexico, Peru and Venezuela. Uruguay was champion of the A tournament while Argentina was not involved and will not be so in 2015 either. Los Pumitas have already qualified for the 2016 World Rugby U20 Championship.

In addition to qualifying for the Junior World Trophy the winner will also qualify for the Junior edition of the CONSUR Cup. Set to be rebranded the qualifying team will met Los Pumitas to crown an official South American champion.
