British ambassador to Uruguay visits Los Teros

The British Ambassador to Uruguay, Ben Lyster-Binns is to visit Los Teros this Wednesday. The number two ranked South American rugby nation is into the final stages of preparing for a first Rugby World Cup campaign in twelve years.

Lyster-Binns will be accompanied by a delegation from Hampton School, an English school whose under 18 rugby team is touring the region and will partake in a series of matches against Montevideo’s Old Christians Club. They are to watch Los Teros practice from 3pm at the Estadio Charrúa and the join the Uruguayan test squad to perform training activities together.

Los Teros are preparing to face Argentina at the Estadio Charrúa on Saturday August 01. The fixture is to be Uruguay’s farewell match with Los Teros departing for Japan on Friday August 14 to play a two match World Cup warm-up series.

For Uruguay the Rugby World Cup will get underway on September 20 when Los Teros face Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Subsequent Pool matches will see Uruguay facing Australia on September 27 in Birmingham, Fiji on October 6 in Milton Keynes and against England on October 10 in Manchester.

The British Embassy in Montevideo has provided Los Teros with strong support in recent years. In 2013 England’s tour of Argentina began with a match in Montevideo against a South American XV while the recent Webb Ellis Cup tour also included Uruguay.
