Chilean Sebastian Kalm in USA College All Star Camp

Highly promising Chilean back-rower Sebastian Kalm has been named in the USA Junior Collegiate Stars and Stripes Camp. A total of sixty-seven athletes are to take part in the camp in Vallejo, California from July 14-19 and will include the Stars and Stripes match on Saturday July 18.

The camp includes the best junior and collegiate players from around the country who are to be given the opportunity of training alongside the USA Eagles’ squad who are preparing for the upcoming Pacific Nations Cup internationals in San José and Sacramento.

Career defining opportunities exist for the players. Some are to be selected to play for the Men’s Collegiate All-Americas Sevens team at Serevi Rugby Town Sevens in August while others will train with Taranaki rugby in New Zealand and the standout players will be shortlisted for MCAA and MJAA selection.

Needless to say Sebastian Kalm has the opportunity of a lifetime in front of him. It has come from his impressive performances and leadership for the Lindenwood University Lions. Based in St. Charles, Missouri the team are the 2014-2015 Men’s DI College 7s champions.

Kalm captained the side to the title this past May and in doing so attracted further interest from scouts. His rise in the U.S. college system could well come at the expense of Chilean test rugby. Indeed the back-rower Kalm is a former Chilean under 20 representative but in having not been capped by Los Condores could play for his adopted country. Firstly, however Kalm will be required to perform well in California over the coming week.

Playing at under 20 level Kalm was a teammate of other Chileans playing abroad including Ramon Ayarza (France) and Anton Petrowitsch (New Zealand). Such names are likely to become more known with Chile being included in the proposed Americas Six Nations and Kalm could yet join them or play against them.
