The most capped Pumas forward of all time, Mario Ledemsa has joined the Wallabies training staff led by Michael Cheika for the upcoming Rugby Championship. The former hooker of four Rugby World Cups is to coach Australia against Argentina and to also go to the World Cup.
An official confirmation is expected in the coming days at which time Ledesma is to be named as having signed a contract with the Australian Rugby Union (ARU) until 2017. The reason for the delay is that Ledesma is currently acquiring a permanent work visa to remain in Australia.
The Wallabies are to play against Argentina in Mendoza on August 08 with Ledesma looking involved. Cheika is familiar with Ledesma who joined the Stade Français coaching staff in the 2011-2012 season. It was his first coaching experience after retiring following Rugby World Cup 2011 after having played for Clermont from 2005-2011 and previously playing for Castres and Narbonne.
His path to the Wallabies included coaching not only Stade Français but also Montpellier. In both cases he was the forwards coach. He subsequently joined the Waratahs in Sydney for the 2015 season and, having impressed, is now to be feature in a fifth Rugby World Cup campaign.
