Costa Rica hosts Chicago’s Lincoln Park Rugby

Chicago rugby club Lincoln Park has begun an eight day visit to Costa Rica. The trip is to involve two friendly matches – firstly against San José, on July 27 at Liceo Franco Costarricense. On July 04 Lincoln Park will compete in a triangular-day-competition against veteran Costa Rican teams.

According to Lucas Withington from Sport and Travel, Lincoln Park arrived in the Central American Republic with a squad of 27 players as part of an exchange between the clubs. The North Americans hope to receive a Costa Rican team in 2016.

Exchanges began thanks to a visit to Chicago where contact was initiated with Lincoln Park. Marco Coto commented on the significance of the initiative: ”receiving foreign teams helps the teams improve their level of competition. At San José Stag we have seen that there is great motivation and it is a challenge which opens doors to, in the short term, traveling and enabling this type of quality event, enabling better relations with the team”.
