Uruguay’s return to the Rugby World Cup is now less than three months away. When Uruguay face Wales in Cardiff it will bring to an end a twelve year wait.
Not a lot is expected from the South Americans due in large part to the group being arguably the toughest in history. Los Teros will face both Wales and England in their home countries and also play against both Australia and Fiji.
During the qualification process Uruguay proved many critics wrong not only by successfully reaching the tournament but also by playing more expansive rugby and, in doing so, scoring some impressive tries. Several months before facing Russia home and away Santiago Gibernau scored one of the tries of the year.
From counter attack ball fullback Gastón Mieres demonstrated his skills by getting around and past Florin Ionita, Gabriel Conache, Florin Surugiu and Marius Sirbe before offloading to wing Santiago Gibernau who scored a try under the posts.
