Gilmour signs for Titans

Wolf Pack captain Kyle Gilmour is the newest member of Canada’s growing exiles community. The international flanker has signed a deal that will take him to Rotherham Titans of the Greene King IPA Championship in the coming season.

Gilmour has won five caps for Canada since making his debut against Portugal in November of 2013. He has also been a member of Canada ‘A’ in the Americas Rugby Championship for the past two tournaments, captaining the side in 2014. He was also part of the Canadian Sevens side in 2011, first appearing in the Wellington leg of the series.

The 27-year-old from St. Albert, Alberta, is currently preparing to take part in the Canadian Rugby Championship, which kicks off in Calgary on June 28. Capable of playing across the back row but most often seen at flanker, he has been a staple in the Wolf Pack side in recent years, leading the team to their best ever finish last year and nominated to continue in that role again this season.

Gilmour is the 9th Canadian international to enlist for an RFU Championship club in the 2015/16 season. The others are James Pritchard at Bedford; Aaron Carpenter, Matt Evans, and Brett Beukeboom at Cornish Pirates; Tyler Hotson and Jon Phelan at Doncaster; Richard Thorpe at London Welsh; and new Moseley signing Aaron Flagg.

Rotherham finished 4th in the 2014/15 season, losing out to Bristol in the promotion playoffs. They have previously been a home to Canadians Harry Toews, John Cannon, Adam Kleeberger, and most notably Mike Schmid, who spent seven seasons with the club as player, captain and coach.
