Chilean Bezanilla making an impact in New Zealand

18 year old Chilean Pedro Bezanilla has been playing his rugby in New Zealand since 2012. He made the move across the Pacific Ocean following advice from former All Black Paul Henderson who spotted him while working in the country as a coaching adviser.

Upon his arrival Bezanilla quickly established himself at Southland Boys High School in the southern city of Invercargill, making the first XV squad in his first year. Having subsequently been offered a scholarship he stayed on and has played for the province of Southland at under 16 and under 18 levels.

His potential as a future professional athlete has seen him featuring in a Super Rugby training camp for the Highlanders. Currently studying in his final year of high school Bezanilla is open to remaining in New Zealand to try to play professional rugby for Southland at senior level and potentially even the Highlanders.

Bezanilla remains a player in the future plans of Chilean rugby and looms as a player to feature in the proposed Americas Six Nations. Last October he was named in a 31-man Los Condores Rugby Sevens training squad in late 2014. At his New Zealand high school he plays as an inside centre.
