London Welsh Sign Palamo

London Welsh have confirmed the signing of USA Eagle Thretton Palamo on loan from Saracens. Palamo, 26, who made his International debut for the USA in 2007 at Rugby World Cup, has been capped five times by the USA and also made appearances for the USA 7s side. After taking a hiatus from rugby to pursue college football at the University of Utah, Palamo returned to rugby a little over a year ago and was quickly signed to a three-month deal with Saracens that was eventually extended to a full contract.

Palamo also returned to the picture for the Eagles.  He made his return to the Eagles roster during last year’s Pacific Nations Cup. Palamo has recently been named to the upcoming USA World Cup Training Squad where he expects to challenge for a place in the USA backline for London. Palamo is expected to join London Welsh after the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The London Welsh are looking to rebound after a disastrous 2014/2015 campaign where they finished the Aviva Premiership season with an 0-22 record and were relegated back to the RFU Championship.

London Welsh Director of Rugby Steve Lewis said in a statement released by the club, “We are delighted to have secured the services of Thretton for the forthcoming season. Thretton is an exciting talent and we are grateful to Saracens for releasing him to us. We look forward to him joining up with us after his World Cup commitments. I first saw him play at the IRB 7s in San Diego a few years ago and his talent was pretty obvious, and when he became available I had no hesitation in pursuing the opportunity. We have the players to bring out the best in him.”

The move to the Welsh should give Palamo an increase in playing time. Limited to only three first side appearances for Saracens last year, most of Palamo’s playing time came in A League matches with the Saracens Storm. Still relatively young, Palamo has an excellent opportunity to establish himself as a regular in the Eagles’ lineup.
