Argentina suffer first ever Under 20 loss against Scotland

Argentina’s impressive performance against the Baby Blacks this past weekend was not replicated this afternoon as Los Pumitas suffered a first ever loss against Scotland in the World Rugby Under 20s Championship. Coming off defeats by margins of two and three points the South Americans were humbled by a solid showing from the North-West Europeans whose 29-6 win sees Argentina finish bottom of Group C.

Coached by Nicolás Fernández Lobbe Los Pumitas were badly outplayed by a Scottish team that capitalized on Argentine errors and perfomed notable better in the set-piece. Argentina’s error-ridden performance saw potential tries go begging and no tries scored by the South Americans for the first time in the tournament.

The heavy defeat came after a trless first half in which Scotland led 9-6 at the interval following a successful penalty attempt to close the half. Minutes before the kick Argentina had come close to scoring a contender for try of the tournament only for a handling error preventing a near length of the field try.

The correspónding fuixture twelve months ago saw Argentina defeating Scotland 41-21 while in 2013 Los Pumitas won 44-13. New Zealand finished top of the group after completing a 25-3 win over Ireland who took second spot by virtue of collecting wins against both Argentina and Scotland.
