USA Women’s Sevens Head Coach Ric Suggitt has named his squad for this weekend’s NACRA Olympic Qualifying Tournament. The USA Women, massive favorites to win the event, are pooled with Barbados, Cayman Islands, and Jamaica. Two players, Carmen Farmer and Richelle Stephens, are new to the roster and will make their Women’s Eagles Sevens debuts at the tournament.
The roster has a bit of a different look compared to the Eagles’ side that finished the World Series season, but the talent pool is strong and with the Pan Am Games coming up, Suggitt chose to rest some players.
Even with what could be perceived as a experimental roster, the USA is not taking the tournament lightly.
“There’s no way in the world that we’re going to send a team there and underestimate who we’re playing against,” Suggitt said in a release from USA Rugby. “That’s not happening. Rest assured, we’re not taking it lightly. We have good enthusiasm and good leadership inside the group.”
The tournament, set to be played at Wake Med Soccer Park in North Carolina, kicks off on Saturday June 13th with pool play and completes with the knockout stage on Sunday June 14th.
