In what is easily the busiest year of rugby events in the history of American rugby, tickets for the USA Eagles September 5th home test match against the Qantas Wallabies have gone on sale. Set to be played at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois, the match should be an excellent World Cup Primer for both sides. The test serves as the final warm up before both sides head to England for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
The Eagles have a strong build-up to the World Cup planned as the team takes on Japan and Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup before playing an exhibition match against English side Harlequins in Philadelphia. The USA culminates their RWC preparations with the match against the Wallabies at Soldier Field.
Presented by Astellas, the test match marks the second consecutive year that a Southern Hemisphere powerhouse makes a trip to Chicago to play at the famed home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears. Last November, the All Blacks came to the United States and pulled in a capacity crowd of 61,500 shattering the previous American attendance record of 20,181 that was set when the USA took on Ireland in Houston in 2013.
The Eagles and Wallabies last met in the 2011 World Cup with Australia coming away with a 67-5 victory. The Wallabies are significant in the history of USA Rugby, as they were the USA’s opponent in their first-ever International test match. That match, played in 1976, was won by Australia by a score of 24-12.
