Wales name World Cup training squad

Welsh head coach Warren Gatland has named a 47-man training squad for the Rugby World Cup. The selection includes nine previously uncapped players in the form of Ross Moriarty, Dominic Day, Rory Thornton, Kristian Dacey, Tom Francis, Jack Dixon, Tyler Morgan, Eli Walker and Gareth Anscombe.

There are also some established players past or present missing with Gatland having left out James Davies, Josh Navidi, Aaron Shingler, Josh Turnbull and Ben John. The squad is to be cut to 31 on August 31 to prepare for a warm-up fixture against Italy.

Wales will play in Pool A of the tournament, a group also featuring Australia, England, Fiji and Uruguay. Wales will open it’s World Cup campaign by facing the South Americans at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday September 20.
