Austin signs USA League international Gabe Farley

USA Hawks Rugby League international Gabe Farley has joined the Austin Herd for the 2020 Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old center joins fellow Lindenwood graduates Sione Fangaiuiha, Wesley White, and Michael de Waal on the roster of the Texan franchise.

Born in Denver, Farley moved to Australia at the age of 1 and began playing rugby at age 5. He took up a scholarship offer at Lindenwood in 2013, that same year becoming the youngest player to be selected for the Rugby League World Cup though he did not play any matches at the tournament.

The following year Farley was selected to the USA side that competed at the Junior World Trophy in Hong Kong. He started all four games, scoring two tries. In 2017 he was called for his second Rugby League World Cup, this time taking the field alongside Old Glory DC winger Ryan Burroughs.

Farley returns to rugby union on a deal that will also see him registered for the Austin Huns. He debuted for the Red River D1 side on Saturday, scoring a try as a replacement against Dallas RFC.

Four other Herd signings were released to club duty on the weekend. Loosehead prop Phil Hanson and utility back Corey Jones played for the Huns, while wingers Alex Faison-Donahoe and Rodrick Waters played for the Austin Blacks against Dallas Harlequins.
