Tomás Lezana has signed a new contract with the UAR. It will see him continuing to play for Los Jaguares for a further two years. The 25-year-old follows fellow back-rower Javier Ortega Desio who extended his contract last week.
Both Lezana, and Ortega Desio will be Jaguares in 2020, and 2021 and under contract with the Argentine Rugby Union until December 2021. This means they will be free for international duty at all times.
Both men were involved in the inaugural Super Rugby campaign and have been regulars for Los Pumas throughout the current RWC cycle which began in 2016. They follow hooker Agustín Creevy, Tomás Cubelli, Jerónimo de la Fuente, Guido Petti, Emiliano Boffelli, Bautista Ezcurra, Bautista Delguy, and Marcos Kremer in remaining at Los Jaguares following RWC 2019.
Departing for Europe later this year are Pablo Matera, Santiago García Botta, Martín Landajo, and Tomás Lavanini. Both those to have re-signed and those departing are all under consideration for selection for RWC 2019.
Lezana comes from the northern Argentine city of Santiago del Estero and the club Santiago Lawn Tennis Club. The same club produced Juan Manuel Leguizamón, and Facundo Isa. The former is to remain at Jaguares until the end of 2019.
For the current Super Rugby season Leguizamón, Lezana, and Javier Ortega Desio are joined by Rodrigo Bruni, Pablo Matera, and Marcos Kremer as the leading back-row options.
