Ortega Desio Re-Signs With Jaguares

Javier Ortega Desio has re-signed with Los Jaguares. The back-rower has extended his contract with the UAR until December 2021. It sees the player from the pioneer Jaguars team set to remain in the side for an additional three seasons.

The 28-year-old from Entre Rios province is a vital player for both Los Jaguares and Argentina. He has been capped 51 times, doing so at flanker, second-row, and N8. Under Mario Ledesma he became the leading domestic option at the back of the scrum.

In RWC 2015 Ortega Desio played in three matches. He made the roster ahead of Tomás Lezana to join Juan Martín Fernández Lobbe, Juan Manuel Leguizamón, and Pablo Matera as the flanker options. Facundo Isa, and Leonardo Senatore were the N8s.

For RWC 2019 Ortega Desio is likely to be selected as a N8, traveling together with Isa. Matera, and Lezana are leading options for flanker together with rookie Rodrigo Bruni and Marcos Kremer. The latter wears the 7 shirt, the same one previously held by Ortega Desio under Daniel Hourcade.

Yet the versatility of Desio Ortega means he can play anywhere in the back-row. This saw Mario Ledesma moving him to N8, and he fit into the role quickly. He has been retained in the position this year under Gonzalo Quesada. Thus far he has played four games in the 2019 Super Rugby season.
