Psalm Wooching heading to San Diego

Psalm Wooching is set to dip his feet into the waters of Major League Rugby. The flanker is currently on tour with the US Eagles who play Ireland in Dublin on Saturday. His next stop will be San Diego, where a spot in the Legion’s back row awaits. Wooching confirmed the move on social media last month.

After making his test debut during the 2018 Americas Rugby Championship, Wooching missed out on the inaugural MLR season and the June internationals. He signed a one-year deal with Viadana in March but the contract fell through in July, with the Italian club citing ‘physical problems’.

In August the 24-year-old featured in the USA Select XV side that competed at the Americas Pacific Challenge. Wooching was then recalled to the Eagles for the match against the Māori in Chicago and subsequently the European tour. He won his 4th test cap as a replacement in the win over Samoa.

Wooching’s addition is a boost for the Legion, who have yet to formally announce any signings for the upcoming season. With a number of players departing – including Eagles No8 Cam Dolan – there are openings at several positions.

Fijian Olympic star Jasa Veremalua has signed a two-year deal, while a pair of recent additions have been revealed on social media streams. Belmont Shore’s Fijian No8 Keni Nasoqeqe is an explosive athlete while GCU utility back Austin Taefu provides options at halfback or in the midfield.
