Argentine center Juan Pablo Estelles will join Los Pumas in Edinburgh. The coaching staff has called up the Northampton Saints mid-fielder to train with the senior Argentine roster this week.
Aged 28, Estelles is uncapped. Having been a longtime servant of Los Pumas 7’s he signed a contract to play in England after the 2016 Olympic Games. He has made several appearances thus far for the Northampton Saints but is yet to receive game time in the Aviva Premiership.
His call-up comes in stark contrast to UAR policies. European based players are not eligible to play for Los Pumas. This has seen the likes of Marcos Ayerza, Marcelo Bosch, Manuel Carizza, Mariano Galarza, Juan Figallo, Juan Imhoff and Juan Pablo Socino all miss out on opportunities this year.
Argentina will play their third of four test matches this month on Saturday. The match against Scotland is a must-win to safeguard against a problematic draw for Japan 2019. A win over the Northern Europeans will ensure Argentina cannot be ranked lower than 8th in the world.
