Tonga wing joins PRO Rugby

Tongan international winger Viliame ‘Pila’ Iongi has signed with PRO Rugby. The 26-year-old is set to debut for San Francisco against Ohio on Sunday. Iongi joins the team directly from the Greene King IPA Championship in England, where he ended his season with Nottingham this past weekend with a hat-trick of tries against Cornish Pirates. He finished the campaign with 11 tries in 11 league games.

A former Brumbies Academy member while playing in Australia, Iongi made headlines with a four-try test debut against the Eagles in June 2011. He was part of Tonga’s entry in the 2011 World Cup, starting against France and New Zealand. In total he has won 11 caps, the last against Fiji in June 2013. Iongi spent two seasons with Scarlets in the Pro 12 before joining Nottingham in 2014.
