Waldouck signs for PRO Ohio

Former England Saxons centre Dominic Waldouck has signed for PRO Ohio. The move was this morning announced by his current Aviva Premiership club London Irish. The 28-year-old joins up with the American franchise with immediate effect.

“I enjoyed my time at London Irish, but the opportunity to go and play in the States was too great to ignore,” said Waldouck in a media release. “I would like to thank the London Irish supporters and I wish everyone at the club all the very best for the remainder of the season and beyond.”

Waldouck made his Premiership debut at age 19 for Wasps, where he was a teammate of current US Eagles assistant coach Rob Hoadley. In 2008 he was called up to the senior England tour of New Zealand but did not make an appearance. He debuted for England Saxons in 2009, and after a standout domestic season was again included in the senior England tour to the Southern Hemisphere but dropped out part-way with an ankle injury.

Injuries have plagued the midfielder’s career in recent years. A ruptured Achilles tendon in 2011 knocked him out for six months and after signing for Northampton Saints in 2012 he suffered three serious leg injuries including a detached hamstring that restricted his playing time. After three seasons he moved to London Irish in the summer of 2015 and has made six appearances for the club since. All told he joins Ohio with more than 100 Premiership matches to his name and 40 European games between the Challenge and Heineken (Champions) Cup.

The signing adds to Ohio’s international contingent with former All Black Jamie Mackintosh, Canadian international Kyle Baillie, Chile u20 rep Sebastián Kalm, and Italy ‘A’ flanker Filippo Ferrarini already on the books. Ohio’s first game in the inaugural PRO Rugby season is set for April 17 at Infinity Park in Denver.
