Brazil Name 29-man Roster for Germany

The Confederação Brasileira de Rugby (Brazilian Rugby Confederation – CBRu) has confirmed a 29-man roster for the upcoming two-match test series against Germany.

Despite failing to reach the national club final, the Super 8 São Paulo’s SPAC has the highest number of athletes selected. The club’s seven players is staggeringly seven more than the berate Super 8 finalists Curitiba. Also underrepresented are champions São José who only have two players selected.

The 29-man roster will be cut to 23 with those named all set to feature against Germany. Despite improved investments and facilities the 29 players are not all involved on merit. Missing are Brazil’s Rugby Sevens players who continue to prepare for the Olympic Games.

Completing the list of players from the Super 8 are five players based abroad, who qualify based on eligibility laws. Australian Dave Harvey is the biggest name included. Harvey has experience playing professional rugby for the NSW Country Eagles.

Others include Matteo Del Acqua who plays for Reggio in Italy’s second division, the Serie A and the Argentine pairing of Stefano Giantorno and Yan Rosetti who play in the URBA Top 14. Rosetta is a clubfeet of World Cup Puma Matías Moroni. Also based in Argentina is Caique Silva who plays for Buenos Aires second division side CUQ.
